Lavender soothes, calms, and cures, some say. If you aren’t free to enjoy the scent on the breeze in a straw hat in a field in Provence, stop by the Okura Prestige Bangkok’s 24th floor skybar to try their sweet and boozy takes on the chill-inducing herb.
As a seasonal offering, the hotel’s pastry chefs have whipped up a Lavender Garden Afternoon Tea that’s available until the end of the month.
On the menu are creative offerings like lavender macarons, lavender and bee pollen chocolate, lavender and blackcurrant cream rolls, lavender wild blueberry cake, lavender and blueberry tartlet, potted lavender crème, and blackcurrant scones with clotted cream and jam.
We’re not sure if we’re relieved or disappointed that the savory offerings in the set are decidedly un-purple. The crab, avocado and nori tartlet, white asparagus with hollandaise and capers, and mini club sandwich with smoked trout will be served in their standard hues.
The tea is on daily from 2-5pm through the end of the month and costs THB1,190 with tea or coffee for two.
If you’re more of a drinker, some unusual purple cocktails are part of the seasonal menu as well. The skybar’s mixologists tried to capture the “scents and flavors of a lush summer meadow full of flowers” with a handful of pretty, floral choices.
Their L&B Champagne Cocktail features lavender syrup, berries, maple syrup, vodka, and — of course — champagne, while the Violet G&T, has got your expected gin and tonic, while raising the bar with violet liqueur, lime juice and lavender syrup. Lavender Rosé Royale combines Rosé wine, grapefruit juice, lavender syrup, prosecco, and egg white to create a frothy daydream of a drink.
The flowery sippers are available until the end of the month from 7am-1am and start at THB250.
