Poll Results: Who Thai hearts belong to this Loy Kratong

Part rite and festival, part spiritual renewal and always a little romantic, Loy Kratong is many things to many people.

A recent survey of Thai sentiments about this holiday by the Bangkok University Research Center’s Bangkok Poll of 1,354 cityfolk got some interesting results.

52.4 percent of participants indicated they intend to attend the Loy Kratong festival while 47.6 percent said they were not so sure.

When being asked what concerns they wished to disappear with their kratong, over 56.4 percent wanted to cast out the political situation, followed by disagreements among Thais, and corruption ranking No. 3.

Happiness and health is what 50.9 percent of Thais would wish for while 15.4 percent chose wealth and the rest hope for success.

Then it came to the ultimate question. Because Loy Kratong is something of a romantic occasion as well, the poll asked: Which politician would Thais take out on Loy Kratong night? And despite recent political disagreements, 29.2 percent say they would love to float a kratong with Prime Minister Yingluck. All being nearly fair-and-balanced, 27.1 percent would take Abhisit Vejjajiva from the Democrat party, and others revealed they want a very special night with massage parlor king-cum-MP Chuwit Kamolvisit, Daily News reported.
