NIGHT PROWL – Whether food, drinks or sex, Bangkok is undoubtedly the world capital when it comes to late night cravings. You can find anything you want at whatever hour you want – well, almost anything. But there are those nights when McDonald’s delivery or noodles just can’t curb a drunken hankering (nor the impeding hangover), and there’s no way you can be trusted cooking at home. So here’s our list of five 24-hour restaurants for a big greasy platter and some sit-down service.
1. Took Lae Dee

If the munchies are calling for something deeply satisfying with an emphasis on inexpensive, Took Lae Dee is the obvious frontrunner among in-the-know expats. These restaurants aren’t much when it comes to atmosphere – think the harsh, bright light of a Foodland supermarket paired with screwball night shoppers – but there’s no doubting their American and Thai dishes hit the spot. For THB 69, you can get a proper breakfast of two eggs any style, bacon or ham, juice and a coffee or tea before the sun even comes up. It’s just the right amount of greasy goodness to cure a hangover before your liver even gets up to speed.
Location: Foodland supermarkets, across Bangkok
2. 25 Degrees

Face it, you’ve balled out like a Thai soap star all night, and now you want to throw down your last THB1,000 on the best damn meal of your life. Enter 25 Degrees. If the Burger No. 3 (THB330), loaded with mezzo secco jack, green chili, chipotle and avocado doesn’t soak up the poison inside, we don’t know what will! And if you’re feeling too nauseous for a full meal, there’s a full smorgasbord of savory nibbles including truffle fries (THB100), buffalo wings (THB140) or a milkshake (THB120).
Location: 188 Silom Road, Pullman Bangkok Hotel G, Silom
3. Angel City Diner

Located right in the middle of Bangkok’s adult romper room, Sukhumvit 11,
This ’60s-style diner is only a tipsy wobble away from a wealth of bars and VW vans. They have really good burgers too, but we recommend the breakfast on steroids – for example, the pancake sandwich (THB269) with bacon, maple sausage ham, fried eggs and grilled tomato, stacked between buttermilk pancakes. There’s also the monte cristo (THB299), a traditional French toast sandwich thickly wedged with ham, turkey cheddar and Swiss cheese. Slather some apple cinnamon jam on that bad boy, and it’s the perfect fix to your morning after suffering.
Location: The Prime 11, Sukhumvit 11, Nana
4. 24 Owls

There’s a reason the Italians love drinking wine – there’s nothing like a bowl of simmering hot pasta when you’re all liquored up. To fulfill this midnight yearning, there’s 24 Owls from the Sometimes crew formerly of Sukhumvit 71. The spaghetti tobiko (THB 220) is a crowd favorite, as well as classic fare like the fish and chips and bangers and mash. With a quiet garden setting, it’s a more peaceful place to wind down the night with a group of friends and a cup of tea or craft beer.
Location: 39/9 Ekkamai 12, Ekkamai
4. Too Fast To Sleep

If you learn anything living in Bangkok, it’s that sleep is completely overrated. And finally, there’s a 24-hour café that really gets it. During the day, Too Fast To Sleep is a favorite hangout of local Chulalongkorn study bugs, sitting on laptops and shooting up espresso in a quiet, homely atmosphere. But pop in anytime after 1 a.m. and you’ll see partygoers devouring chocolate cake like it’s the last sugar on Earth. There’s also a full menu of Thai dishes, ranging around THB140.
Location: 754 Rama 4 Road, Silom
5. Malaysia Hotel

After Sammy Wong kicks the last patrons out of his cult bar in the wee hours of the morning, Malaysia Hotel’s restaurant across the street is still open. Whether that’s good or bad is still up for discussion, seeing as the 24-hour restaurant serves cocktails, beer and you-name-it for cheap prices. The ambience is caught somewhere between cozy and hole-in-the-wall, with outdoor seating and usually a few football fans watching some match on the European clock. Nonetheless, it’s got just the right makings of a square meal, from club sandwiches to Thai dishes, before you get the hell out of Sathon and into your snuggly bed.
Location: 54 Soi Ngamduplee, Sathorn
