No matter how hot Bangkok is, we’ve always got time for tongue-burning papaya salad.

Six months after it opened in the city’s old town (in Nang Loeng area, to be exact), Laotian restaurant Lao Dtom Lao has moved into a new home in a much busier neighborhood: Thonglor. The eatery, which relocated just last week, serves affordable and authentic Laotian dishes that offer far more than spicy papaya salad and sticky rice.

Led by chef Dayvith “Daeng” Chanthavongsa, who is from Savannakhet province in Laos, the kitchen serves a variety of lesser-known Laotian dishes. Carnivores who always order sua rong hai (grilled marinated beef) as a beer snack may like the Sai Krok Nua Sua Rong Hai (THB180), smoky beef sausages full of spices served with jaew chili dipping sauce.

Some other highlights in the menu include: Tum Savannakhet, spicy papaya salad with thick papaya strips and Laotian olive oil (THB90), Kaeng Nor Mai Lao (THB155) a bowl of aromatic high-fiber bamboo shoots and Ped Tom Nam Ya Lao (THB180), duck breast and rice noodles soaked in spicy curry served alongside a medium-boiled egg.
