A little dark sarcasm is mixed into a new Ekkamai-area bar by the team behind highly acclaimed Soi Nana cocktail bars Teens of Thailand and Asia Today.

Niks Anuman-rajadhon friends, who own four cocktail bars in Chinatown, have opened their fifth on Soi Ekkamai 5. Dubbed Untitled, its facade resembles 1930s America until you look a little closer and find not all is right here

“Welcome to Hopeless Society. Free Admission. Doing the Same Shit Each Day. Keep Dreaming Until You Wake Up,” are printed on the windows.

It’s some cutting commentary on the upscale Ekkamai-Thonglor scene, where pawnshops are nowhere to be found.

Co-owner Gunn Leehasuwan wants to see his affluent customers walk into a pawnshop to experience this symbol of class inequality.

The drinks? The other two team leads are Niks and Attapon De Silva, OG Bangkok bartenders in the scene for a long time.

There are six signature cocktails focusing on exotic ingredients and unheard-of combinations. For a refreshing Japanese-style highball, try the AFS (THB420), which uses “exotic ingredients” like aged fish sauce in old cask, mixed with scotch, apple and topped with soda.

Stiff drink lovers, head for the Issa Plant (THB420), mixing rye, cherry, vetiver — a sort of medicinal plant and raspberry rock, which smooths the rye while keeping the drink spirit forward. Also there is a Cacti (THB420), mixing tequila with cactus, prickly pear and melon.

For something easy to drink, go for the Kapeach (Korean peach, vodka, rice wine, and green chili, THB340) or the Chrysanity (rum, almond, Mexican marigold, and chrysanthemum, THB360).

Untitled opens from 7pm until late from Wednesday through Sunday. It’s located in Soi Ekkamai 5, opposite to Donki Mall department store. More details are available online.
