This Sunday, one of Bangkok’s top craft beer destinations will spread its wings to a downtown shopping mall.
Famous for a wide selection of quality craft beer in Bangkok, Mikkeller will unveil its newest baby, Mikkeller Discovery, at a grand opening event on April 20. The new spot will be half bar, half bottle shop, and will have 10 different brews rotating on the tap at any given time, as well as 50+ varieties of bottled beer that customers can purchase for takeaway, or in-shop consumption.
And, free booze alert: 100 beers will be given out for free at the new shop, starting at 11am on Sunday. They’ll be serving Scandinavian-style brunch, too.
Mikkeller is a microbrewery that was originally founded in Copenhagen, Denmark. It launched its first bar in Asia in 2014, in Bangkok’s Ekkamai area, before opening a second branch, Mikkeller Ari, in 2018.
The original Ekkamai spot opened with a whopping 30 taps and brought in some really, really rare fresh brews to Bangkok for the first time, such as Alpha State’s NZ IPA, Three Floyds/Amager’s Arctic Sunstone, and Reparationsbajer from To Øl.
Mikkeller founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is a self-proclaimed “gypsy brewer,” meaning they have no official brewery, and instead, the experimental brewer travels the world to find other beermakers to carry out the brewing process of their recipes, or to collaborate on some interesting one-off brews.
