A dog was discovered half buried to prevent its escape and forced to survive on coconut milk so it would have a sweeter taste for barbecuing.
In a report published today, the animal advocates of Watchdog Thailand said public health officers were doing field work in Kanchanaburi province earlier this month when they they found the dying, buried dog and immediately rescued him.
“Dam” the dog was unearthed May 8 and sent to an animal hospital immediately while the officers from the Ministry of Public Health questioned construction workers camped near the spot Dam was found. One person claimed they helped feed the dog but when asked why the dog was buried and who was responsible, the person simply said “dunno.”
Other locals told the ministry crew the workers might have been attempting to prepare “Coconut Milk Dog.”
What’s Coconut Milk Dog?
Well, the locals explained, it’s a bizarre recipe in which a dog is prepared for delicious eating by first being buried in the ground. This, we can only speculate, is to tenderize the meat similar to how baby cows are immobilized for veal production.
After the dog is sufficiently undergrounded, it is fed only coconut milk. This gives the dogmeat a sweeter taste, they said. You continue this for about a month until its fur completely falls out and the dog is dead.
Its meat will be then be greasy and taste like coconut when barbecuing.
Watchdog Thailand says today it will file a police report and urge the police to interrogate the person who fed Dam.
Dam is currently recovering from his interrupted coconut milk-dogging. His bottom half is severely wounded. He can’t walk but is expected to survive.
