Quality steak doesn’t exactly come cheap in downtown Bangkok, but the Ekkamai area recently welcomed a new restaurant that serves home-cooked meat dishes that look like they can satisfy steak cravings without ripping through your wallet.

Founded by four friends who are beef lovers, Chunn popped up a few months ago inside a two-story house on a corner of Soi Sukhumvit 61, offering meat-centric dishes that mostly feature delicate, medium-rare cuts of beef.

Relying on word-of-mouth (and social media) only, Chunn has grown in popularity and is packed with dine-in customers every day. The owners recommend booking in advance.

Chunn’s highlighted signature dish is its Chunn Beer Rice Bowl (THB190), which is filled with chopped beef steak and topped with soy sauce pickled egg yolk and deep-fried shallots.

For people who are dining in a group, then the big, juicy 300 gram Australian steak Strip Loin (THB450) could be a solid sharing option, or perhaps for something more indulgent, the Rib Eye (THB590), with thick cuts with layered fat, would be ideal. Both of them are served with a dipping sauce that mixes classic French Béarnaise sauce with Thai-style nam jim jaew.

Non-beef eaters, on the other hand, can opt for the Chunn Pork Rice Bowl (THB120), Pork Chop Kurobuta (THB350) or Fish & Chips (THB390).
