Life after Gaa: Chef Garima brings Indian breakfasts and evening wines to Thonglor

After closing Gaa post-lockdown, chef Garima Arora and company have returned with a new project in Thonglor.

Occupying a renovated, 60-year-old house on Sukhumvit Soi 53, Here is scheduled to open mid-November as a “modern Indian breakfast canteen and wine bar.” Being a breakfast canteen, that means it will open early each day. As in, 7:30am. The second floor will eventually accommodate the return of a reborn Gaa. Unlike its fine dining partner, Here is billed as a “modern Indian breakfast canteen and wine bar.” Being a breakfast canteen, that means it will open early each day. As in, 7:30am.

From morning until 5pm, drop in for wholesome dishes such as black rice dosa, sweet and savory millet porridge served with fruit, and fresh bread with homemade cheese and grilled rose, plus classic Indian drinks like chai, cold coffee, and shikanji (Indian lemonade). Catering to Thonglor’s on-the-go crowd, the restaurant will also have a takeaway storefront—grab a cup of chai and a fresh-made treat like paniyaram (bread-like snack made with black lentils and rice) stuffed with Bombay potatoes or caramelized bananas before you head to the office or co-working space.

Warning! Taco Fest to erupt across Bangkok next month

In the afternoon, you can order from a light all-day menu, and from 5pm, the wine bar—which will house close to 3,500 bottles—will offer an a la carte menu that puts a twist on favorites like fresh Indian breads, grilled meat and vegetarian kebabs, coastal snacks, and betel leaf chaat. Drinks-wise, Gaa’s head sommelier, Fredrik Wohrlabe, will oversee a list filled with exclusive Old World bottles.

Staying booze-free? There will be a bunch of juices made with seasonal fruit and some fun, fermented offerings, too.
