Whether it’s hot or raining in Bangkok, many people don’t stray far from their lifelines of powercooled shopping malls along the Skytrain system. We’ve had some rain, but forecasts indicate May will be this year’s hottest month, so here’s some easy-to-reach sweetness to help you survive the searing sun.

Creamery Boutique Ice Creams offers 10 unique homemade ice cream flavors inside its homey, baked-cookie scented atmosphere. University students pack the shop during lunch and after school, so we’d recommend weekday afternoons and lazy Saturdays. Friendly staff hand out tastes of any flavor and also serve free water. The “Brit-Pop” flavor mixes eggy and meaty flavors with small bacon bites. You can choose to enjoy a scoop solo or pair it with a waffle or cookie. “Freaking Hot” cookies are served on a hot pan plate. Can you already imagine the warm cookie’s molten chocolate lava core all covered in yummy ice cream inside your belly?

Mango sticky rice, a signature sweet of Thailand’s summer, is reborn again as one of our favorite desserts courtesy of FreshyFreeze. This dish is served with sticky rice and fresh mango on the side, but the main event is the mango ice cream freshly made to order on a frozen pan. The ice cream is very milky and mango-y with chunks of mango flesh.

Japanese soft-cream has been fashionable for some time, but there’s still people who fear the the blackness of bamboo charcoal. Kyo Roll En’s bamboo charcoal is mixed with a vanilla so the only taste is sweetness. The matcha green tea soft cream is exactly that, with a great taste unlike cheaper green tea ice creams. The soft-cream comes with red bean paste, a white dango and matcha chocolate. The branch at Central World is small with only two tables while other branches have more space to chill.

Located inside the creative institution of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, IceDEA’s ice cream is not ordinary but an exhibition of edible artwork. Not only are unique homemade ice cream flavors available but so are some unique and creative dishes. The Well-Done Steak could be better than the real thing. The “steak” is made of hazelnut chocolate on baked cookie powder that’s served with parmesan cheese bread, whipped cream and a caramel banana that look like fried fries. Such a delicious creativity.
