How to feel French this winter

Presented by

Our prediction: French style is the next craze coming to Bangkok. But without the chilly temperatures that make layering possible, you can forget French fashion. Damn those chic coats and stylish oversized sweaters.

But, hey, we can still act Parisian and eat delicious French food while we sip wine outdoors. Oui oui!

And the best place for outdoor dining in Bangkok? On a rooftop, high above our daily traffic battles and workplace hassles.

Monsieur Gilles Poitevin, executive chef at The Roof Gastro takes inspiration from the sea and the earth, always with a nod to his French heritage. He recommends starting with the Tuna Nicoise Salad, a delicate medley of garden veggies (390 THB) and nicely seasoned slices of seared tuna.

The Jumbo Scallops are creamy and decadent, with deep fried cromesqui (a delicious breadcrumb-like addition), white truffle sense and hollandaise sauce (790 THB). The rich sauce and seared scallops feel perfectly balanced.

Pure white Sablefish in a salty crust is equally tasty. The generous fillet of fish is seasoned with classic French herbs and surrounded with sautéed new harvest potatoes and mushrooms then topped with home-cooked style poultry gravy (990 THB).

For the meat lovers, the Pan-Seared Beef Sirloin is cooked Burgundy style with a red wine sauce and Dauphine potatoes (1,390 THB).

But save room to indulge in special French desserts like the Amaretto Semolina Entremet with pistachio meringue hot chocolate coulis (220 THB).

The final French temptation? Booze, of course!

Every Thursday has been declared Thirsty Thursday at Siam@Siam’s The Roof Gastro.

Come between 7pm and 10pm for free flow Singha on draft or bottles of Chang for 499 THB net. House spirits (vodka, gin, rum, whiskey plus a mixer), and house red and white wine are just 799 THB net.
