The Phra Khanong neighborhood has welcomed a lush little hangout where people can grab snacks, dine, or drink in a cheery, open-air setting.
Adding to the map of all-day diners, Hookrajong Haus is tucked unassumingly into the garden of an event and marketing agency in Soi Pridi Banomyong 42.
Since opening earlier this year, the venue has welcomed diners to unwind on plush furniture amid the leafy hookrajong, or Ivory Coast almond trees, that give the place its name. The kitchen is helmed by celeb chef Naree Boonyakiet, who is best known from the Iron Chef Thailand cooking competition.
Previously opening evenings only, the place recently extended opening hours to cover breakfast and lunch.
Expect protein-packed dishes like the Kai krata (THB200), a Thai-style breakfast that comes with a pan-fried egg, pork sausages and minced pork, as well as Egg Rolls with Hollandaise Sauce (THB170). Those who crave a carb-filled meal should opt for a no-frills chilled noodle dish called Zaru Ramen with Arctic Surf Clams (THB250).
The highlight however was the Pasta Carbonara (THB300), a hearty and creamy comfort dish of angel hair pasta matched with smoky bacon bits, parmesan cheese, and egg yolk. Cozy up on a chilly day with rich, velvety Shrimp Bisque (THB190) or Chicken and Corn Soup (THB150).
Drinks vary from coffee, tea, mocktails, and cocktails. The bar also offers some fine wines.
The place fills up Friday evenings with a live band playing 7:30pm to 9pm. A happy-hour special buy-one-get-one drink special runs 5pm to 8pm. Those who have a birthday in the month they visit get a 10% discount if they show ID.
Hookrajong Haus is open at 8am every day except Tuesday. It is located in Soi Phanit Anan (Soi Pridi Banomyong 42) in the Phra Khanong area. The venue is reachable by taxi or motorbike from BTS Phra Khanong.
