Drinking for a cause is now possible at an Ekkamai beer bar which said it will donate beer sale revenues to support Ukraine.

Since Saturday, Mikkeller Bangkok has been donating 100% of its beer sales from three taps to the Ukrainian embassy in Bangkok.

“We cannot stand by and do nothing,” said Jakob Rasmussen, its Danish owner. “We have friends in the brewing world who are deeply impacted by the situation, and it’s heartbreaking to hear their stories.”

The three taps are Sukhumvit Pale Ale (400ml), Bean Geek Session Porter (400ml) and Algorithm Maple (200ml) and they can be easily spotted with blue-and-yellow tap handles, from No. 28 to No. 30. They sell for THB500.

Over the weekend, Rasmussen said a lot of customers – Ukrainians and others came to enjoy the beers and show their support. As of today, THB15,000 (US$450) has been raised and donated to the embassy.

Rasmussen said he and his team will pour until the kegs run dry. The money raised will be transferred to the embassy every Monday.

Mikkeller is a microbrewery originally founded in Copenhagen, Denmark. It launched its first bar in Asia in 2014 in Bangkok’s Ekkamai area and has been running since with a whopping 30 taps.

Mikkeller Bangkok opens every day, from 4pm until 11pm on weekdays, and 11am until 11pm on weekends. It is located off Soi Ekkamai 10.
