Good things come in threes at new Thonglor bar ‘Tre’

The rule of thirds is taken to extreme at a three-story building housing three intermingled concepts – restaurant, bar and rooftop – and serving a blend of three cuisines.

Tre Bar & Bistro; a new Thonglor destination for dining, drinking and escaping the pandemic blues; opened two weeks ago in a place previously echoed with Japanese karaoke.

Behind it is Vinthai Dusdeesurapoj, a former fashion brand owner turned restaurateur. Under his vision emphasizing elegance and glamor, a large Art Deco chandelier hangs over green velvet sofas and gleaming gold-brass shelves.

The food at Tre (“three” in Italian) is a journey through Japan, Peru and Italy. Tre serves fusion dishes that include Peruvian Chicken (Peruvian-style roasted chicken with salsa sauce, jalapenos and passion fruit for THB320) and Taraba Tortilla (steamed red king crab, tortilla, avocado and rocket salad for THB380).

The dish that stands out most, though, is Golden Bowl (THB1,200), a Japanese rice bowl of perfectly executed sous vide Australian wagyu beef, sea urchin roes, Japanese fried rice sprinkled with truffle salt and oil.

While the cocktail program delivers a fair list of classics, try one or more of the signature drinks (all adhering to the “three” theme, of course).

Some of the sleek and competent concoctions include The Three Dots (THB320), a refreshing glass of potent tequila complemented by homemade salted calamansi juice and honey-coated bay leaf. Those who want a fragrant and flavorful glass should opt for The Three Musketeers (Rosé vermouth, homemade elderflower cordial and gin-infused saffron for THB400), while No Evil (Genmaicha tea vermouth, homemade banana cordial and gin-infused banana for THB360) definitely give patrons a punch of tropical taste.

During its soft-opening phase, Tre is currently operating 6pm onward. The entertainment starts off with nostalgic, melodious electro swing music before stepping up to soul, funk, RnB and hip-hop at around 9pm. According to Vinthai, a DJ station will be installed after the grand opening, expected for early next month.
