Two months after his Michelin-starred powerhouse closed forever, famed chef Gaggan Anand, who has since been busy breathlessly describing himself as a “culinary rock star” among other superlatives, yesterday announced a new dining spot inside a house on Soi Sukhumvit 31.
It’s not currently clear what kind of cuisine Anand and his “rebels” will be serving, but so far on Anand’s Instagram feed, where he publicized it Monday with a photo of his name on a sign, we can see him getting hands dirty on dry, aged birds and a huge chunk of llama meat.
The only additional insight comes by way of a description on his reservation page, a confetti of words about his “G-Spot” table (THB12,000 [US$400] per person, with wine) in customary hyper-florid terms:
“If food is an act of love, and eating is sensual, then you can unlock this key to shattering foodgasm. But is it real? Honestly it is complicated. Space where we bring people all over the world, without barrier of color and religion. A communal food where we will promise you memory and stimulate emotions of food erogenous zones of your tongue with texture, temperature, taste and surprise.”
Apart from the “G’s Spot,”more familiar restaurant seating is called Arena G and priced at THB8,000 per person. Customers who want to savor Anand’s food as a group can book My Private Table at a THB120,000 minimum for up to 10 guests.
Online reservations show the soonest opening at 7pm on Friday as of Tuesday afternoon. Patrons must complete a two-page, detailing their food allergies, preferences or whether they’re dining for a birthday, bachelor party or “divorce celebration.” As if that wasn’t enough, they must answer things about their favorite rock band, swear words, fashion label they love and many more silly indulgences.
It’s a far cry from the relatively staid persona he maintained during the height of Gaggan, his previous Langsuan Road effort he led until his departure in a cloud in August.
Gaggan Anand is located up Soi Sukhumvit 31 (Soi Sawasdee) and can be reached from BTS Phrom Phong. That’s all for now. We’re going to search for these tongue erogenous zones.
