Gallery Pizza delivers artisanal pizza till 4am and their profits fund an art gallery

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Gallery Pizza has been quietly climbing the ranks of Bangkok’s best pizza places since opening in February of last year. The delivery-only pie shop offers an ongoing promotion that will get you any two pizzas for just THB499.

As if that wasn’t enough to convince you to order from them, you can also call your late-night cheese cravings a philanthropic endeavor since the profits reaped by the shop fund the Thai artists that work and exhibit at the gallery next door, Sathorn 11 Art Space.

Before opening his doors, owner Shane Greene spent four months in Italy and interned in two Italian kitchens And it shows in his pizza, which is made from 99 percent imported Italian ingredients. The veggies on top are sourced from local markets.

About the gallery connection, Greene said, “The original concept was to create infrastructure and job opportunities for the resident artists at Sathorn 11 Art Space. We found so many great talents and many [came from] outside Bangkok and didn’t have family or structure in the city. So we created Gallery Pizza to give them job opportunities while doing residencies at the art gallery.”

Gallery’s wood-fired pizzas come in just one size, 12 inches, and can easily be polished off by one person with a good appetite.

So many pizzas.

We recently had a chance to sample several of their most-ordered pies. The crusts on the wood-fired pizzas offer just the right amount of crunch and chew while the slight charring makes it taste super authentic. The sauce is tangy and not overly sweet, as some Thai tomato sauces can be. The cheese is plentiful, our favorite thing for cheese to be.

American pepperoni pie.

We tried a standard Margarita and American pepperoni pie, a white Italian, and a Supreme pie for their standard offerings. For more unusual choices we tried a pie with vodka sauce, a white garlic chicken pizza, and an artichoke capri pie.

White chicken garlic pie.

We loved the taste of the real American pepperoni, we can think of at least one well-known Bangkok pizzeria that offers a pepperoni pie but delivers something that is unlike any pepperoni we’ve ever seen, so we were pleased to see real pepperoni on these pies. Their vodka sauce merits a mention since it’s the star element of what has become their signature pie. The rich, creamy tomato sauce turns a pie into an even more decadent experience, and one that we highly recommend. Apparently, a vodka pie with pepperoni has become Gallery’s most popular off-menu order.

The beloved vodka pie.

For those that feel strongly for or against pineapple on pizza, they do offer a Hawaiian option as well as a krapow pizza for your friend that won’t shut up about Thai food.

To complement the pies, they offer garden salad (THB120 or two for THB199), sodas, bottles of wine (THB440-THB1340) and beer including Kirin, Asahi, Hoegaarden, and Vedett (starting at THB80 for one to THB860 for a six-pack). Beer and wine can only be delivered until midnight.
