McDonald’s has opened their doors on Koh Phi Phi, one of Thailand’s most-visited islands.

Their Facebook page announced that the new location is open daily from 8am-10pm and they posted cutesy pictures of a Ronald McDonald statue seeming to arrive on the island by longtail boat.

Though many people simply tagged their friends in the comments and said “let’s eat,” others seemed less pleased about further Westernization of the once-pristine island.

However, others had questions about all the waste the fast food franchise would bring to the island as well as the unhealthy food.

Mike Nottingham said “No doubt more rubbish ending up in the sea! I hope there is a litter surcharge of at least 50baht/item” while Zachary Sullivan commented that this is “how Thailand got fat.”

  1. I’m shook. A real sign of overdevelopment on the island and more competition for local food sellers. Why, McThai, why?!
