Eco-conscious groups have organized a riverside market, where city-dwelling buyers can purchase greens and organic food from local farmers and producers that come from within 100 kilometers of Bangkok.
BIG Trees, FabCafe Bangkok, CreativeDistrictBK, SOS (Scholars of Sustenance Foundation), and The Sustainable Self have joined forces to encourage Bangkokians to reduce their carbon footprint, one cabbage at a time. With the slogan “Eat Local, Think Global: Find joy in foods close to home,” the event encourages buying local products to limit carbon emissions caused by transporting food from far away.
The name 100 Kilometers comes from the concept that by sourcing only products grown or made within 100 kilometers of Bangkok, the market creates a connection between buyers and producers that is environmentally friendly and supports locals.
Farmers and producers who are against chemical agriculture will bring their seasonal veggies and fruits, mushrooms, herbs, and other products to the market. Shoppers can also find healty, organic prepared food as well as crafts and clothes.
Shop and eat more responsibly at the riverside in front of Shangri-la Hotel on December 9 from 3 – 8 pm.
