Phuket’s Old Town is booming with creativity, adventure, style and culture. No where is this more evident than in the cuisine. Here’s your guide to the best food and drinks Old Town has to offer.
Phuket’s Old Town
Start on Yaowarat Road with some light and crispy coconut crepes by the original crepe-maker, Mae Sunee. Kanom Ahpong Mae Sunee has been around for years and her secret recipe still attracts locals and tourists alike. Pick up 1 crepe for 3 THB or 7 pieces for 20 THB.
Walk down and turn on Thalang Road to experience Book(hemian), a cafe/bookstore/art gallery/event space in the middle of Phuket’s Old town. Yes, all that can be contained in one little shophouse. With original architecture and floor to ceiling books, you could sit here all day. We recommend enjoying an Iced Orange Cinnamon Mocha while people watching.
Book(hemian)
Walk down Soi Romanee towards Dibuk and take a moment to appreciate the Sino-Portuguese architecture that makes Old Town so unique. This small lane is flanked with old fashioned shophouses that received creative makeovers.

On Dibuk you’ll come across the Phuket dining institution, Raya. Admire the vintage style decor before you realize that it’s just the owner’s old decorations, preserved through the years just like the original recipes. This authentic restaurant features home style Phuket cooking in a comfy whitewashed shophouse with green glass windows.
Casa Blanca Hotel
Turn and walk down Phuket Road to Casa Blanca Hotel. This beautiful old school hotel with a gleaming white facade is a great place to stop for cake and tea at their Cafe Y Te.
But don’t fill up yet because the new restaurant Tu Kab Khao is just ahead on Phagngna Road. Fast becoming a local fave, the space is decorated in chic retro blue and white with plush furniture and a menu of local Phuket dishes we’re sure you haven’t tried.

But try you should, because this restaurant is equal parts authentic and delicious. The Crab Curry with Chapu Leaves is filled with big, generous chunks of fresh crab meat. The Nam Prik is a perfect balance of sour lime, spicy chilies, crunchy dried fish and a shrimp paste that’s perfectly balanced and aromatic. The Sour Mixed Vegetables and Pineapple Soup with Grilled Fish is a local dish that’s both healthy and flavorful. Even better, prices are very reasonable.
Tu Kab Khao
For your fill of Phuket dim sum, there are several places in Muang Phuket to choose from. Head to the nearby roundabout and find Boonrat Dimsum on Bangkok Road. This Phuket street food institution has expanded to 3 different locations around the Old Town. Open from 6am until 10am, get here early to hang out with the locals and swap island stories with grumpy old men.
On Ratsada Road check out Ka Jok See, one of the most unique places in Phuket for food and drinks. This small restaurant/bar is camouflaged among Chinese shrines and classic coffee houses, but inside you’ll find customers dining, drinking and dancing on tables. The owner of this fine establishment loves to get the party going. Get your group and head here for a crazy fun Saturday night.
Further down Ratsada Road is Quip Bed + Breakfast where you’ll find a fabulous rooftop bar. Eclectic decor and a clientele of hipsters on holiday and in-the-know locals make this a must-drink destination.
