Being a foodie and living in Bangkok is awesome. Being a beer snob and living in Bangkok sucks. The problem here is that good beer should go with good food, but the pickins’ are slim when it comes to a decent brew to accompany a decent dish in the City of Angels.
When we got wind that Inedit, the legendary sommelier brew was being served by the ridiculously named Villa Be Your Guest we got pretty excited, and here’s why:
Inedit is a Spanish brew that was specifically engineered to go with food. It’s a lager with characteristics of a Belgian Abbey ale so its light and extremely drinkable, but it packs some decent flavor: a citrus flavor comprised of citrus and orange peels that manages to pair well with foods that have oily textures, like good fish. The beer has quite the pedigree as it was created by superstar chef Ferran Adrià, head chef of El Bulli in Spain.
Villa Be Your Guest will be having a one-night dinner where 750ml bottles of Inedit go for THB390 with a free flow of tapas. Ironically, this same beer will most likely be found for double that price at eateries elsewhere in world.
The dinner, taking place on May 3 from 7-9pm also features paella at THB590.
Is beer replacing the tacky wine crazy the swept our city in the past year? Sure, Villa Be Your Guest is just as ostentatiously themed as the handful of other cheesy wine-themed places, but they’re giving us great beer at a good price, and purposely pairing it with food–we have to give credit where credit is due, and this place is setting a trend we’d like to see more of.
