COCONUTS HOT SPOT – Who doesn’t want to be a kid again? Fine, maybe some of us had “colorful” childhoods that are better forgotten – but if you’re one of the lucky ones that still longs for your youth we’ve found the place for you: Mr. Jones’ Orphanage at the Seenspace complex on Thonglor 13.
The operation is centered around desserts of all kinds: cakes, brownies, milkshakes, blondies…. you name it. There’s also a semi-savory option in the form all-day breakfast. Upon entering this fairytale-like dessert shop everything clicks and you do really feel like a kid again. Even the architecture gives the interior a larger-than-life feel with low ceilings on the second floor and the use of angles and lighting to make it seem larger in the dining areas and smaller in the showroom area.
The man behind the operation is none other than Thonglor restaurant baron Ashley Sutton, whose bad boy aura belies his cutesy design prowess. The furniture is crafted from unfinished wood just like high chairs from back in the day, paper planes dangle from the ceiling (a common Sutton design element, check out the pigs next door at CLOUDS), toy soldiers and matchbox cars are littered throughout the seating area, and the desserts are dubbed names like “first day at school” and “for mom and me.”
Seenspace is the most hopping spot in Thonglor right now so you’re bound to wind up here some night in the near future if you haven’t already. Just a warning: As yummy as it looks, don’t go here for a milkshake after sucking on hookah and crushing beers in the courtyard.
