Levels Club & Lounge has more than a few levels to climb before it can reach the ranks of legendary Bed Supperclub and QBar in the thriving nightlife street of Sukhumvit 11. On its grand opening night which attracted such a large number of guests the packed elevators became a potential safety hazard, the club actually ran out of beer before 11pm. The Heineken stall was completely dry with bored-looking beer girls dressed in the signature green outfits not knowing what else to do with their time. At the circular bar in the middle of the club where about 40 guests were being served by three bartenders there was also no beer in sight, except for all the empty bottles littered around the bar. It’s safe to say that all of Bangkok showed up for this grand opening event, some guests even came as far as Phuket to be there. Perhaps Levels underestimated the level of commitment that this city’s party people have for coming out to events held in the middle of the week, but let’s just be glad that things didn’t get crazy because all hell can break loose when a party runs out of beer.
Apparently there was also a prolonged delay in the “opening” time and added confusion over wristbands, which by the way were some of the cheapest paper ones we’ve ever come across in all our years of partying. Imagine a long piece of paper that is held together by some adhesive similar to that of a Post-it note. We carefully maneuvered our way through the crowded club silently wishing that the Post-It wristbands would stay on long enough for us to reach the second floor VIP lounge area – by some miracle they survived! For all those who were prohibited from the upper-level, we’re reporting back to you now that you did not miss a single thing. For one, they were also lacking beer. Secondly, we fell victim to these curiously dark chocolate balls served as dessert that should have come with a “Warning: Do Not Consume” tag because they were very hard to swallow. Thanks a lot Levels! We now know what dried up mud or play-do tastes like.
Adding to the list of disappointments was the fact that there were no entertainers. Go-go dancers in caged booths? Acrobats flying across the room? Cigar-smoking midgets? Anything??? No. There was zero creativity put into this party planning and yes, we were extremely let down. Sure, the DJs did their jobs and there was even a live band, but these days we just need more. We don’t want to sound completely ungrateful though. There was a silver lining to this place – the inner LED blasted dance room that was finally opened some time after 11 pm. It’s hands-down the best part of the club, a complete psychedelic experience of colorful lights and clouds that demand you to dance. After the doors to this secret room opened people were seen with beers in their hands again thanks to an additional bar opening up. It’s just a shame that more than half the party already dispersed to neighboring clubs by that time.
