Japan’s Hitachino Nest beer hits Thailand

Japan’s Hitachino Nest Beer has arrived in Thailand.

The Japanese microbrew hails from Kiuchi Brewery, a sake distiller tucked away in the Ibaraki prefecture. What sets this beer apart are the unique hints of flavor it obtains by employing sake-distilling methods during the making of the ale. Many Hitachino beers are matured in casks used for making Schochu, a strong distilled spirit similar to sake, giving the beer a unique, far-eastern flair.

As of now only three of the brewery’s beers are offered in Thailand: White Ale, a Belgian-style beer with hints of coriander, nutmeg and orange peels (think Hoegaarden), Weizen, a malty German-inspired beer, and our favorite, the Red Rice Ale, which possesses sake-like characteristics.
