Expect to pay a whopping THB240 or more at a swanky Chidlom hotel, and around THB180 for a stiff drink around the Ekkamai/Thong Lor scene. The trend seems to be that the further towards the Bearing BTS you go, the cheaper the booze gets.
This theory was backed up by a little gem of a bar we found right under the On Nut BTS with THB80 cocktails. The place we’re talking about is called The Cocktail by Akrachai and it serves up killer cocktails for folks on a budget. The draw? Akrachai, the bar’s revered mixologist, used to work at the Sheraton, where you would have paid THB200+ for one of his prize-winning mixes.
We know what you’re thinking: pop in here for a few cheap cocktails to pre-game and then hop on the BTS to meet up with friends in central areas of the city. Sure, it’s a good idea, but we have to warn you: Akrachai’s is a hot, sweaty, sometimes messy affair. Cheap booze comes at a price.
That’s the beauty of it all though, first class cocktails served under a tent at a market beside the BTS – doesn’t get more Bangkok than that. And there are plenty of food options around to munch on while you’re boozin’. Remember how we said it was hot and sweaty? Well nothing cools you down like a good platter of chilled sashimi from the little stall across from the bar. For THB200 you can get a platter of fresh fish that pairs well with any of the killer cocktails.
