In a city that never sleeps, even Tuesdays have been designated as a night for partying till the AM thanks to French Tuesdays. Well, it’s not exactly the sort of party that lasts til the break of dawn since we all have work the next day, but it definitely helps make Tuesdays feel like a Fridays. With over 27,000 subscribers worldwide, this members-only event is held regularly in major cities across the globe, including New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Paris, London, Tokyo, and Mumbai to name a few.
The latest event organized by French Tuesdays Bangkok was called “Scandalous Ball”, a masquerade party held at Sofitel So Bangkok’s obscure yet elegant Park Society. We’re not sure if the venue is normally that dim, or if our feathered masks just made everything seem a lot darker. Either way, it created the perfect lighting, or lack thereof, for some serious action. It’s the action on the dance floor we’re referring to, but in case you’re wondering whether there was some lip-locking going on, the answer is yes. In fact, we witnessed one couple swapping saliva in plain view of passersby. How they managed to find the one area of entire place that was well-lit to have a not-so-private romantic moment is beyond us.
As it should be at any righteous party, the amplified music could be heard from the moment we signed in at the registration table. Like victims falling for the songs of mythical Greek Sirens we were drawn into the room… never to be seen again. You see, the thing about masquerade parties is you can actually disappear into the crowds – with the right mask and outfit of course.
As we entered into a sea of a beautifully attired population of party enthusiasts, we spotted one girl wearing a dramatic theater mask that covered her entire face, shrouding her identity all throughout the night. It was only hours after the party when she tagged photos of herself that we realized who the mystery girl was. Being a lot less prepared for the party, we were grateful for the freebie masks provided by French Tuesdays’ organizers which helped us fit right in with the menagerie of masked faces.
One characteristic of French Tuesdays parties that we find especially appealing is the surprise party favors that are passed out at a certain point during the night. You never know what it’s going to be, but it’s probably something that will make you feel special. At a previous event flashing rings were passed out to make us feel like fancy ravers. This time we had access to a treasure trove of glittery, feathery, shiny masks to adorn our faces with, and somehow even went home with a feathered fan.
