DINING DISPATCH: Last call for killer boat noodles at Boran

On April 26, Boran in Exchange Tower will close its doors forever. That means you have one week left to try a bowl of the restaurant’s popular boat noodles.

Of course, you can get boat noodles almost anywhere in Thailand, but here’s what puts Boran’s a cut above the rest: they use Kurobuta pork and Thai-French beef instead of the standard meats you’d find in the street rendition of the Thai staple dish.

Kurobuta pork comes from a rare breed of pig known as the Berkshire swine. Although it’s currently raised in Japan, the breed traces its lineage back to a specific herd maintained by British royals since the 1700’s. The high fat content and excellent marbling make this pork ideal for slow-cooking, as is the case in Boran’s pork boat noodles. The Thai-French beef employed in the dish also contains a higher level of fat, and we all know that more fat equals more flavor.

For an elevated take on an everyday dish be sure to get to Boran sometime during the next week and give the boat noodles a try.
