The World’s 100 Best Restaurants awards have been doled out, and congratulations are in order, because Coconuts cities Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore have done pretty well for themselves, placing seven restaurants on the list. Our proudest moment comes courtesy of Bangkok’s Gaggan, which maintained its top position for the third year in a row at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. The modern Indian restaurant soared 16 spots to clinch The Best Restaurant in Asia title at seventh place overall.
Singapore’s Restaurant André also accomplished the rather impressive feat of ascending a whopping 18 spots to take 14th position, with Tokyo’s Narisawa (18th) and Hong Kong’s Amber (24th) hot on its heels. Bangkok’s Nahm took 28th spot, followed by Shanghai’s Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet (41th), and Tokyo’s Den (45th) rounding up the Asian restaurants on the list.
Also included in the top 100 are Singapore’s Burnt Ends (53rd) and Odette (86th), as well as Hong Kong’s Otto e Mezzo Bombana (60th) and Lung King Heen (71th).
Now in its 15th year, the 2017 awards features nine new restaurants – six making their debut and three as re-entries – and includes names from 22 countries across five continents. Elsewhere in the world, Eleven Madison Park in New York took top spot and the title of The Best Restaurant in North America after rising from its third place last year.
