Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market ranks fourth place on CNN’s top ten list of fresh markets in the world, proving that the popular space near Chatuchak was the perfect place to grocery shop all along.

Packed with fresh products from all over this tropical country, from durian to mangos to fresh vegetables, CNN describes Or Tor Kor as “immaculate and brightly lit, allowing shoppers to easily cruise for seafood, sweets and cooked foods.”

Tourists can buy a selection of exotic ingredients such as curry pastes and spices to cook at home or sit and dine on Thai food. To locals, Or Tor Kor’s most famous product is a staple dish of somtam, commonly eaten with sticky rice and fried chicken.

Globally, La Boqueria, the fresh market in Barcelona, Spain topped the list. Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan, took home second place, followed by the Union Square Farmer’s Market in New York City.

Closer to home, Singapore’s Kreta Ayer Wet Market, which stocks fresh ingredients and Chinese herbal remedies, ranks seventh place. Hong Kong’s Kowloon City Wet Market rounded out the list with its Cantonese snacks and not-too-spicy Thai dishes sold in in the neighborhood.
