Cairo Uprising: Aly and Fila bringing the ‘Loud’ to Demo

SPONSORED – Just call them the pharaohs of trance. Egyptian DJ duo Aly and Fila are famous for conquering Europe’s electronic music charts with their euphoric instrumentals and uplifting beats. So what’s next on the path to global domination? Bangkok, of course.

Aly and Fila are headlining Bacardi’s “Loud and Untameable” event at Demo Thonglor on Thursday. It’s not the duo’s first time playing in the Land of Smiles, after debuting in February 2013 at the King of Clubs. Last year was indeed a smash hit for Aly and Fila, after being voted the #20 best DJs in the world in DJ Mag.

Despite the recent accomplishment, Aly Amr Fathalah (Aly) and Fadi Wassef Naguib (Fila) have been hustling towards international success for quite some time now. The childhood friends-turned-production team started making music together in 1999, out of a small studio in Cairo. After signing with German record label Euphonic Records in 2002, the pair catapulted into the limelight with a release called “Eye of Horus”. Named after the ancient Egyptian symbol for protection and good health, the track was definitely a lucky charm, getting major airplay from Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren and DJ Tiësto.

Aly and Fila went on to become frequent guests on Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance. That eventually inspired the DJs to start their own weekly Internet radio show, Future Sound of Egypt. The one-hour mixes play both commercial and underground trance, with over 300 episodes having aired to date.

Aly and Fila have since started a record label of the same name, “Future Sound of Egypt” Recordings. The guys are producing other big name electronic talents like Sean Tyas, Neptune Project and Bjorn Akesson, while also focusing on discovering new trance DJs from Egypt.

Meanwhile, Aly and Fila continue to produce their own tracks with the latest album, 2014’s The Other Shore. This is the newest single, “For All Time” featuring Montreal-based singer Jaren. It was released just a couple weeks ago:

You can see Aly and Fila play live this Thursday at Bacardi’s “Loud and Untameable”. Warming up for the duo is Bangkok’s very own resident trance DJ, Jonnie B. Tickets are THB 500 at the doors of Demo Thonglor.
