Bangkok has it all—except green space. There’s almost no way to escape the hustle and bustle and commune with nature. I say almost because there is the “Bangkok Tree House.” Tucked away on the swampy shores of the Chao Phraya in an area known as “the green lung of Bangkok”, or as the locals know it, Bang Nam Pung, the Bangkok Treehouse is a welcome retreat for any city weary Bangkokian.

This area is practically free of any kind of industry, and the only sounds you’ll hear on this side of the river are the cargo barges chugging along, or the assortment of critters hooting and howling in the palm-laden wetland. It seems surreal when you remind yourself you’re only a few kilometers from the Bang Na BT
To get there, get off at the Bang Na BTS and take a 40THB taxi ride to the “Ta Nam Pier.” At the pier take the 4THB ferry ride across the Chao Phraya. Once you arrive you’ll need to make your way left to navigate a series of elevated concrete walkways, which will take you to the nature-themed resort.
You can opt to stay in any of the eco-friendly modern-meets-rustic rooms, or just come and hang out at the restaurant to get away from the fast-paced city life for the day.
The menu at Bangkok Tree House consists of tried and true dishes with traditional Thai flair—like the Spaghetti Gang Keaw Wan Pla Salid and spaghetti dressed in a fiery green curry sauce with pieces of river bass. The spice level is certainly not toned down here, so if you’re sensitive to the chilies, be aware. A great brunch idea is the Eggs Benedict in Massaman Curry , a fusion dish of eggs, whole wheat bread and potent massaman curry to start off your day.
To get into a good book or argue life’s great questions, there’s nothing better than a fine cocktail, and the Bangkok Tree House is fully stocked. The menu features several of herb-centric elixirs, like the zesty Tom Yum Fireball, made up of kaffir lime leaves, lemon grass, vodka, whisky, lime and chili. For something a little more refreshing, give the Mango Kick Boxing a try. The mango juice does a good job at hiding the healthy does of whisky and vodka.
