You know those times when you just want to relax by a pool, drink cocktails, and people watch, but no one goes to your condo pool and you can’t drink there anyway? (Is that just us?)
Well, if you do ever find yourself in that predicament, then there’s this cool little backyard-style spot where you can do all of the above.
Sathorn Soi 10’s Blue Parrot is offering something that no other Bangkok restaurant seems to. It’s not fancy, it’s not a hotel, it’s a bar and restaurant — but with a pool, a charcoal grill, and a petanque court where people are gathering to spend long weekend afternoons.
A word to the wise, the place gets crowded on Saturday and Sunday, and much of the crowd tends to be expat families from France. That means kids, in a pool. Probably running around and demanding juice (in French) and, well, those other things that children do.
One regular at Blue Parrot, who wished to remain nameless, told Coconuts, “If you love this place but not hanging out with kids, come for happy hour after work where you can enjoy the place with the grown-ups.”
A solid tip!
But if family life is a vibe you dig, grab your swimsuit and head to Blue Parrot on a sunny Saturday. The place has a small but comely pool fully stocked with fun inflatables, and rimmed with covered cabanas and sunny lounge chairs.
Word to the wise: get there early if you want to score a cabana. Not kidding.
The place also supplies two petanque strips for easy pick up rounds of the French ball-throwing game that bears some similarity to Italian bocce.
One thing we love about this place is that it doesn’t have the awkwardly posing beautiful people, that see-and-be-seen vibe that most hotel pool parties have even though, truth be told, there are plenty of beautiful people here. But they don’t care if you see them or not because they are busy making sure their kids don’t drown.
If you get hungry, this place specializes in brunch-time faves like Blue Parrot Eggs Benedict (THB250) or Smoked Salmon Tortilla (THB250), as well as lunch and dinner. The Fish Tartar Mango & Citrus (THB280), with local sea bass, mango, orange, lemon and xeres vinegar, is a perfect thing to eat by the pool.
Or try something from their charcoal grill. Like a whole Sea Bass for Two (THB690) with tartar and chili Sauce or Chipolata Artisanal Sausage (THB360) served with tomato, greens, and caramelized onion in a ciabatta.
Owned by the same folks that own Revolucion Cocktail next door, you know the drinks will be great, like Down the Riviera (THB280) featuring vodka, fresh watermelon, mint, lime, sugar and Perrier, or G&G (THB260) made of gin, pomelo, and tonic.
Their regulars also rave about the good selection of well-priced wines by the glass, including several rose varieties and lesser-known whites. The pool is even shaped like a wine bottle. Vive la Blue Parrot.
