Clear your Sunday schedules, guys. It’s time for the bi-annual (sometimes tri-annual) feasting market, Big Bite Bangkok at the Maduzi Hotel parking lot, this Sunday from 11am–2pm.
Somewhere between a block party for a good cause and a farmers market for people who can’t be bothered to cook, Big Bite Bangkok brings together small food & beverage businesses and foodie entrepreneurs so you can sample their breads, sausages, prepared meals, pastries, beers, wines, and more. If you like what you sample, buy it in a larger quantity. It’s not as frequent as the plethora of weekend markets storming the city of late, but Big Bite Bangkok has a large and loyal following, particularly among expats. Last time, it was a full-on chowing and mingling extravaganza, despite the heat.
This time around, co-organizer Chawadee Nualkhair (Chow) promises a roster of both old and new vendors.
“There are people who are here in new incarnations, like Jess [Barnes, formerly of Quince] with Opposite Mess Hall, and well-known purveyors who haven’t participated before, like Joe Sloane [sausages and cold cuts], The Alchemist [cocktail bar] and Oyster Bar.”
Brand new brunch spot Tribeca will also be representing, along with beef hot dog joint Superbdog and Jenny’s WC Cakes. Returning vendors include Urban Pantry—who do breads, spreads, and other pantry items—and Adam’s Organics. The event is sponsored by Hua Hin-based wines Monsoon Valley, so expect to sample their Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, etc. as well.
Several participating vendors have committed to donating a portion of their proceeds to local non-profit In Search of Sanuk, which supports at-risk families and children by providing tutoring services, safe houses, and rent and food stipends. There will also be a donation box at the entrance, so dig deep please!
