Bangkok has no shortage of places to imbibe, whether you prefer high-end cocktails at a skybar, bargain basement beers, or chugging for free at any of the city’s various ladies nights (or the city’s one men’s night).
As we roll into 2018, The Bar Awards season has begun, the prestigious drinks franchise has already announced its many lists of contenders in categories including: The Rising Star (for young bartenders), Best Beer Bar, Best Wine Bar, Best Hotel Bar, Best Restaurant Bar, Best Hospitality Ambassador, Most Creative Cocktails, Bartender of the Year, and more.
Though it’s only the awards’ second year in Bangkok, it’s been going for longer in Southeast Asian cities including Hong Kong, Singapore, and KL.
While all the categories are interesting, what we’re most interested in — of course — is the best all-arounder, the Bar of the Year award.
Though the winners won’t be announced until Feb. 25 at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, the nominees have been announced and, leading up to the finale, there will be a week of guest shifts and parties.
The weeding process has already begun as well. Voting began with public nominations in a dozen categories. These nominee names were passed to a panel of 44 industry members in Bangkok to decide on the Top 10s.
These 44 insiders will later vote again to pare each category down to four before the winners are announced in February
Bar of the Year nominees are:
Ku Bar Disclaimer: This is the best/only picture of their bar on their page. We guess they are trying to be mysterious.
#FindTheLockerRoom A much-hyped hot new bar of 2017 hidden behind a wall of lockers. It abruptly closed down in December but will supposedly reopen next month in a new location. No Facebook page.
Who do you think will win?
