Downtown office workers facing an ugly commute home due to traffic or overcrowded trains have a new option to kill a few hours and pints.
While many in the Phrom Phong area opt to walk around EmQuartier or sit down for happy-hour beers at an izakaya or sports bar, they can now ascend to a new, beer-focused bar hidden upstairs that passers-by can glimpse from the BTS station.
Hidden in plain sight, 2+4 Bar (that’s “two plus four”) was founded by bankers who, out of boredom, decided to open their own bar, plus a wine joint upstairs. Targeting mainly office workers, the space is conveniently located in a building just off Soi Sukhumvit 24 with only one way in: up four flights of narrow stairs (the bar’s Facebook page tells people to “enter from back side!”).
Lacking in size but ample in cozy vibes, 2+4 is outfitted with six solid taps of craft beer. Bottles and cans are sold from a refrigerator. Some of the offerings on tap during a recent visit included easy-to-drink aromatic “hoppy lager” Island Hopper (THB240) and a strong (10% ABV) vanilla-meets-coffee imperial porter Victory at Sea by Ballast Point (THB360).
A kitchen expands the bar snack list from addictive small plates of edamame (THB120) and spicy potato wedges (THB120) to single dishes that can actually fill a stomach: spaghetti with spicy pork balls (THB220), rice with braised pork ribs (THB180) and Tom Yum rice with stir-fried chicken (THB180).
Bands play every night starting at 8pm.
2+4 Bar is open 5pm to midnight every day and can be reached from BTS Phrom Phong’s exit No. 4.
