COCONUTS HOTSPOT – Perched on top on the United Center office building is the newest addition to Bangkok’s rooftop bar scene – Cloud 47. What sets this sky-high venue apart from the dozens of other rooftops joints scattered throughout the city is its sheer size, which creates a beer garden vibe. Don’t let the “beer garden” thing fool you though, prices and clientele aren’t what you’d find on the ground. The 47 is a reference to this establishment being on the 47th floor of this Silom office building.

The space is big—it encompasses nearly the entire rooftop, and at the time of writing only the outdoor beer garden section had been open, but a separate fine dining section is slated to open soon. This section will feature a grandiose wine selection and cellar.
The theme is futuristic white, similar to the dearly departed Bed Supperclub. The color changing LEDs and its location on the 47th floor create a UFO landing pad-like setting.
The majority of the cocktails are made with Absolut and priced at THB240. There are Absolut takes on standard cocktails like Sex On The Beach, but there are mildly creative options like the Absolut Sun Seeker, a mix of Absolut Citron, lime wedges and simple syrup. As for beer, the usual suspects are on the menu, but interestingly Singha’s microbrew Est. 33 makes an appearance at a hefty THB360 a pint.

You’ll find upscale renditions of standard Thai bar fare, but there’s a few snacking items on the menu that look promising, like the Salmon nuggets(THB160), taco spicy pork with yoghurt sauce(THB150), Charcoal-boiled pork neck with tamarind sauce(THB150), and Deep fried sun dried pork on Shanghai sauce (THB160).
A live band plays during the earlier portion of the night, while a DJ takes over as the nightlife hours approach. The sound system is more than adequate for the space, and hopefully in the future we’ll see some worthy DJs come through here, as the space is absolutely perfect for a rooftop rager.
