Bangkok police propose bars stay open until 4am

The Metropolitan Police Bureau has proposed extending closing hours of nightlife establishments in Bangkok to 4am as part of preparations to join the Asean Economic Community in 2015.

MPB deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak said that they submitted a proposal to the Interior Ministry last week, the Bangkok Post reported.

As we all know, lots of clubs in Bangkok stay open till the crack of dawn. It’s generally understood that such venues pay kickbacks to relevant authorities to be afforded these increased operating hours.

Still, a law like this would mean that clubs in main nightlife areas like Khao San, Sukhumvit Soi11, Thonglor, Ekkamai, and RCA that do close at 2am would now rock for another two hours.

Would that be a good thing? Let us know in the comments below.
