WTF Gallery in Thong Lor kicked off its latest show, “Addiction to Diagrams” by Gaia Scagnetti, last night with a party fueled by free flowing Tigers.
“Addiction” examines the visualization of data and information and featured several wall diagrams and interactive pieces Gaia, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn.
One of the more interesting parts of the show involved guests pushing pins into maps of Bangkok at the location where they most hate, the location they most love, where they hang out, where they live, etc. On one map guests were asked to use red pins if in a relationship and white if single… On another, guests were to choose green if they make over THB50,000 a month and purple if they make less (how rude!).
“The power of a diagram is massive: it is synthetic because it can describe a highly complex object in one image; it is enlightening because it can reveal knowledge that was unnoticed; it is engaging because visualizations are beautiful. It gives people the possibility to interact, understand and deal with numbers, data, complex topics and intricate problems,” Gaia said in the show’s materials.
