Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.
Friday
Nu Disco Party at the Wine Pub
In the past, musical genres prefaced by the word “nu” have proven a sorry lot. However, in the case of the Pullman Bangkok King Power’s Nu Disco Party, we’re willing to give the benefit of the doubt, owing to the event’s promises of French house music, two-for-one tapas (between 10 and 11pm), and a THB990 burger and wine bottle combo.
6pm. Free, THB150 for well drinks, THB990 for a burger and a bottle of wine. The Wine Pub in the Pullman Bangkok King Power. BTS Ratchathewi station.
The Playboy Mansion: Easter Bunnies at Levels
In case the memo has not made it your way, the once mighty Playboy Empire is not what it once was. And hey, you know what other time-honored institution isn’t looking so hot these days? The Catholic Church. So why not combine both these waning giants into a highly appropriate Easter weekend party? And why not hold that party at Levels? – a fine venue in which (as their advertisement suggests) to “flirt gratuitously.”
9pm. Free. Levels, 6/F, Aloft Hotel, 35 Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok, Thailand. BTS Nana station.
Saturday
Bed Bazaar at Bed Supperclub
This Saturday, Bed Supperclub is transforming itself into a musical market, with genre-spanning offerings dressing its many stages. The nightclub’s Grey Goose Lounge will play home to DJ Bee and Fred Jungo, indie-rock ensemble Mahudsajan Thammada and the Indian-nouveau sounds of Chladni Chandi. Elsewhere in the club, attendant can lend an ear to such acts as MC Hydro Phonics, DJ Moola, Orawan and DJ Andrea.
8pm. THB900 (includes two drinks), RSVP on Bed’s Facebook page to obtain THB300 entry before 10pm and THB400 entry afterwards. Bed Supperclub, 26 Sukhumvit Soi 11. BTS Nana station.
Bangkok Book Fair at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center
This bibliophile’s feast runs from March 29 through April 8 and will feature books culled from both domestic and international purveyors. Speakers will be on hand as well to try and wrest attention from the 416 publishers who have set up booths and displays in the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
10am – 9pm, March 29 – April 4. Free. Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, 60 Thanon Ratchadaphisek, Khlong Toei. MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Center station.
Sunday
Easter Mass at Various churches
My favorite feature of Catholicism is that one’s ultimate failure to adhere to the religion’s edicts is included as a basic assumption of the religion’s doctrine. Whether you’re a Christian or not, Easter provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy blissful feelings of renewal and rebirth, which we could all use from time-to-time, metaphysical significance notwithstanding.
Sunday morning (groan) early. Free. Multiple locations.
