Weekend Warrior: What to do this weekend in Bangkok – March 1, 2013

Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.

Friday

New World Wine Tasting at Crave Wine Bar

Crave Wine Bar is offering five wines from Argentina and Chile this weekend for your sampling pleasure. If you feel like spending a little more cash (approximately THB500), you can grab one of Crave’s food pairings, designed specifically to match their liquid offerings.

6:30pm to 8pm. Free (food pairings approximately THB500). Crave Wine Bar and Restaurant, in Aloft Bangkok, 35 Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok, Thailand.  BTS Nana Station.

First Friday at Attic Studios

Attic Studios’ First Friday exhibition is back, having ducked out for a moment to catch its breath. This installation of the artistic meet-and-greet features works from Karma Sirikogar entitled “Third Eye Geometry.” If that doesn’t sound sufficiently weird in and of itself, just check out Karma’s website.

7pm. Free. Attic Studios, 45/4 Sukhumvit Soi 31 Klongton Nua, Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand .

Vote Dudesweet at Sonic

Nothing puts you in the mood for civic participation quite like a hangover, which is why Dudesweet is putting on this pre-election party at Sonic Ekamai. Come on down to dance the night away before steeling yourself later in the weekend to vote.

9pm. THB260 (Includes on drink). Sonic, 90 Ekamai Soi 10, Bangkok Thailand. BTS Ekamai station.

Saturday

Fat Live Smallroom at Impact Arena

If you’re into Bangkok pop, Smallroom Records should definitely occupy a place on your radar. The imprint’s stable of artists offer enough “rawk” to keep the dedicated partygoer in hysterics for a good long while. This concert, curated by Fat Radio, should provide a healthy sampling of Smallroom’s roster.

5:30pm. THB600 – 1,200. Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani, 99 Popular Rd., Bangkok, Thailand.

Sunday

A Study of Buddhist Philosophy and Creativity in Contemporary Art at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center

Even though this exhibition’s title makes it sound like homework, the Study should nonetheless deliver a fascinating intellectual experience for both practicing Buddhists and interested dilettantes. Its participating artists have created both two and three-dimensional pieces investigating Buddhism’s role in the contemporary artistic landscape.

10am – 9pm. Free. Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Rama 1 Rd., Bangkok, Thailand. BTS National Stadium Station.
