Weekend Warrior: What to do this weekend in Bangkok – January 25, 2013

Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.

Friday

Strange Blanket
Students of the several-random-words-mashed-together school of band names, San Francisco production duo Strange Blanket makes lopsided beats that stutter and gasp and somehow achieve dance-ability. Take this opportunity to check them out while they’re in town.
9pm. Free. Jam.  41 Charoen Rat Soi 1, Bangkok, Thailand.

The Repetoire 2012: Kham Phipaksa
Kham Phipaska is a play adopted from an SEA award-winning novel by Chat Kobjitti. The narrative trades on a wealth of Oedipal implications as its protagonist, Phuc, engages in an affair with his late father’s wife.
7pm. THB700, THB500 for students. Black Box Theater, Bangkok University (Rangsit Campus).

Saturday

Bangkok on the Go
Photographer Piyapat Chieovanich has spent the past several years documenting how Bangkok moves. Her photos of Bangkok’s commuters, walkers and transportation networks will be on display at Dialogue Coffee and Gallery until Feb. 14.
4pm – 10am. Free. Dialogue Coffee and Gallery. Thanon Phra Sumen, Bowon Niwet, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200, Thailand.

Sunday

Three Men and Dreamgirls Concert
Half the appeal of this concert lies in the simple opportunity to find out what in the holy hell it actually entails. Copious promotional posters for the event imply that it will involve six singers and multiple dramatic poses. Beyond that, its salient qualities remain a mystery. Check it out; maybe there will be fire.
7pm. THB1,000. Royal Paragon Hall, Thanon Rama I, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand. BTS Siam Station.
