Bangkok’s noisy Nana neighborhood recently welcomed the city’s first Georgian restaurant – and, no, its name has nothing to do with the film that won Ben Affleck an Oscar.

Claiming to be the first Georgian restaurant in the capital, Argo says it makes several of classic Georgian dishes mostly using ingredients sourced straight from the markets of Tbilisi.

The restaurant was opened just a few months ago by Anna Avramidou, who also owns a Greek restaurant on Soi Sukhumvit 33 called Avra.

Argo’s current menu offerings include Satsivi (THB190), a bowl of grass-fed chicken cooked in walnut sauce and Georgian spices, and Badrijani Nigvzit (roasted eggplants stuffed with walnuts and spices, sprinkled with pomegranate, THB130).

Those who love tender meats can opt for the Argo Kebabs, grilled meat skewers rolled into lavash bread and served with Georgian salsa (organic pork or chicken, THB195 / New Zealand Beef, THB250).

If you like xiaolongbao (Chinese soup dumplings), then you might also like Argo’s Khinkali (THB70 per piece), which are large, juicy pasta dumplings filled with a mixture of ground meat and spices. It’s recommended to hold the dumpling by hand and flip it upside down before taking a small bite.

There’s also a burger with a Georgian twist: the Argo Burger, which sees a beef patty spiked with Georgian spices, topped with homemade cheese, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and homemade barbecue sauce, and served with fries for THB260.

Argo sits at the beginning of Soi Sukhumvit 8 and can be reached on foot from BTS Nana. It is open from 5pm until midnight every day except Monday.
