Starting tomorrow night, a new gin will be available in Bangkok. Malfy, an Italian gin created with lemons from the Amalfi Coast, will be available for free sampling at Asoke’s About Eatery.

According to importer Brian Prasomsri, who specializes in importing Italian beer and alcohol with his company Pacbev, the gin has “a nice refreshing hint of lemons. It’s very citrus forward and fresh, with touches of woody juniper bringing character. The lemon notes are authentic, bright and mouth-filling. It’s perfect for a hot summer day.”

Or, probably any day ever in always-steamy Bangkok.

He explained to Coconuts that they create Malfy by taking a mix of lemon peel from Amalfi Coast lemons and Sicilian lemons and steeping them in alcohol before the mixture is pressed in a traditional basket press. He said that, at that point, the mixture tastes very citrusy but is later distilled with Tuscan juniper, coriander, cassia, licorice, grapefruit peel, and orange peel to balance the flavor.

It’s designed to be especially awesome in a gin & tonic, negroni, or martini.

At tomorrow’s event, the gin — as well as the Italian Birra Baladin craft beers on draft takeover — will be available for free tasting and reduced-price full sizes from 5:30-7:30pm.
