8 great places to feast on New Year’s Eve

New Years Eve is the last night to throw resolutions by the wayside before buckling down in 2014. Here’s the run down on ways to end 2013 with a full stomach and hazy vision.

Opposite Mess Hall

Jess Barnes of the indie dining destination claims that “Opposite and WTF are committed to taking back the night” and promises some rocking good times at Mess Hall’s New Years festivities. 2,500THB scores an all-you-can-eat buffet consisting of of albondigas, roast lamb, roast vegetable and quinoa salad, and other plates done in Barnes’s organic Aussie style. To complement the grub, diners get a glass of bubbly and free flow New Years Eve special cocktail. For party goers obligated to do dinner elsewhere, a breakfast and snack buffet will be held starting at 11:00 for 500THB.

Brazilia

In case your resolution for 2014 is to abstain from red meat, best to get in Bangkok’s most carnivourous feast in this year. Brazilia is holding a Brazilian-style buffet, and that means that waiters come around to your table and slice off endless pieces of meat from giant skewers. Expect rump roast, pepper beef, top sirloin, chicken hearts and bacon wrapped shrimp. There is, of course, a salad bar to balance it out. Wash it all down with free flow San Miguel draught and Caipirinha. THB2,599.

Quince

Bangkok’s resident man of soul Keithen Carter is supplying the tunes for the festivities at Quince. Diners choose between three mains: Slow roasted lamb, sustainably caught baked fish, and organic chicken. A host of sides like chorizo potatoes, quinoa tabbouleh, and roast pumpkin round out the feast. In addition, diners will enjoy a glass of champagne by Roederer. THB 2,900.

Bangkok’s host of luxe hotels are putting on proper celebrations high above the street level this year, and if Bangkok’s weather stays this cold you might just want to bring a sweater.

Banyan Tree

For a whopping THB19,500 diners enjoy a 7 course “degustation” menu and  welcome glass of champagne. The upside? Children under 12 arent allowed to partake.

Hotel Muse

At 4,750 for a platter of seafood and a bottle of Prosecco, Hotel Muse promises to be a good option for those looking to break into the hotel scene on a budget.

Holiday Inn

With Sukhumvit 22 poised to steal some thunder from neighboring sois, Holiday Inn is drawing revelers to the Maya Indian restaurant with an open bar and Indian buffet. THB2,500.

If a sit down dinner sounds a little too reserved, these are where masses of people will meet and eat, drink and be merry on the eve of the new year

Tunes and towers of beer will be flowing freely in Centralworld’s courtyard on New Year’s Eve with a lineup of Thai rock and pop concerts. There’s even a chance to win a new Toyota Yaris.

Asiatique

With fireworks and performances by Tata Young and girl duo Niew Jiew, Asiatique will draw some sizeable crowds for 2013’s last riverside celebration.
