A fire at Chalong Pier, Phuket, this morning caused an estimated THB25 million of damage to six speedboats.
Phuket Marine Police Chief Lt. Col. Panya Chaichana was called to Chalong Pier, a popular departure point for dive tours and tour boats heading to nearby islands, at 3am today.
It took 10 fire trucks two hours to put the blaze out.
“One crew member was injured in his attempts to put out the fire, police were told,” Col. Panya said.
“The cost of the damage is estimated to be more than B25 million.”
All six speedboats damaged by the blaze belonged to Phuket tour company Nikorn Marine.
Witnesses told police they first saw smoke billowing from one boat, and then flames. A brisk wind quickly spread the flames to the five other speed boats, which were moored in a row, reported Bangkok Post.
“An investigation is underway to find out what caused the fire.” Col. Panya added.
