OPINION: Thai businesses think Valentine’s Day is mostly for white men and Thai women

Here at the Coconuts office, we have seen several news releases about romantic ways to blow a wad of cash on your beloved this Valentine’s Day. However, one thing struck us about the various media blasts, press releases, and Facebook events — almost all of them feature white men romancing Thai women.

This leaves the rest of us wondering, “What about us?” Can we not also “ignite passions with candlelit dinners” or enjoy “exclusive sunset river cruises” as well?

What about “sharing magical moments together,” “enjoying sparkling wine and tasty tapas,” or making “sweet moments even sweeter with a selection of irresistible desserts?” Is there something unique about the pairing of white men with Thai women that leaves them especially equipped to “dine by candlelight under the stars?

What about Thai-on-Thai hopeful celebrants? How about white women with Thai men? What about a dude from Germany and a Moroccan lady? Are they unable or unwilling to “pledge undying love as they enjoy a Grand International Seafood Buffet under a moonlit sky and let the moment be theirs and theirs alone?”

We here at Coconuts believe that any two consenting adults with a few bucks and an interest in doing so can enjoy a “romantic atmosphere and stunning view of Pattaya bay.”

So, even if you are not a Thai woman entranced by a white man or vice versa, feel free to “Show your darling that your love is deeper than the ocean with a delectable Valentine’s Day Seafood Buffet Dinner.”

Check out this selection of photos from Valentine’s Day promotions showing white men enjoying romance with Thai ladies:
