Souls of Bangkok: Auntie Fai of Chinatown

SOULS OF BANGKOK – Auntie Fai is a famous, sweet orange juice vendor in Chinatown. In the evening, she sells her juice to passers-by. Only in the evening. Not many of her customers know her back-story as a country-music singer. “Let me tell you, I have won many national singing awards for luk thung songs,” she said. “I would go with the band and sing for patients at the hospitals. Most of the time at Rama hospital. Sometimes our band would get invited to play at different events too.”

Souls of Bangkok is a new Coconuts series of street portrait photography inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York. Every human has a story to tell, and we intend to share some from the millions of souls who call Bangkok home.
