Sensual snake lady and zombie ex-girlfriend heat up this week’s theaters

NATCHA ON FILM – This week’s headliners feature a haunting snake reincarnation, haunted middle schools, zombie ex-girlfriends, and on the run teenagers.

Mae Bia (The Snake Lady)

Show this trailer to any westerner with English subtitles and he/she will probably think, what do snakes even have to do with this movie?

“Mae Bia” is a remake of a 2001 film about a married, real estate businessman called Chanachol who is looking to buy a traditional riverside Thai house, and his journey to find the perfect property ends in Suphanburi where he meets Mekhla, a sensual local tour guide.

Mekhla cherishes the traditions of Thailand. She turned her back on the modern world and lives in a traditional wooden Thai house where she keeps a cobra as a pet. Chanachol falls for Mekhla and he ends up having an affair with her.

As their relationship develops, Chanachol realizes Mekhla’s house holds a dark secret about his former life and he learns that meeting Mekhla was fate. Oh, and there’s also the mystery of the cobra named “Khun,” who attempts to kill him.

The Case of Hana & Alice

Even though it somehow transitioned from live action to animation, this prequel to the 2004 film “Hana and Alice” looks pretty good.

“The Case of Hana & Alice” revolves around the same two teenage girls who were seen competing for the same guy in the previous movie. However, in this prequel, we get to discover how they first met and how they unite over a boy. But the boy isn’t your typical boy. He’s believed to be a spirit of a classmate who went missing and is rumored to be haunting the school they both attend.

The animation is made by Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation studio known for classic films like “Spirited Away,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” and “Kiki’s Delivery Service.”

Available in theaters only at House Rama 9 & Lido Apex

Burying the Ex

Hollywood always amazes me with the stupid things they come up with and what they copy from other films because this film is just a copy and paste of a plot from another film.

“Burying the Ex” is about an ex-girlfriend who passed away but somehow returns as a zombie to haunt her boyfriend and prevent him from finding a new lover. This film has a similar plot to the film “Life After Beth” which is also based on the same zombie ex-girlfriend thing. (Yeah, that movie was pretty bad too.)

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Do people even remember what the first Maze Runner was about? As an avid movie-goer, I’m starting to get confused between “Hunger Games,” “Divergent,” and “Maze Runner” because they’re pretty much the same thing.

“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” takes place after they finally escape from the maze and try to find out about the organization behind the whole thing: the “WCKD.”. This installment of the series takes them to the Scorch, which is a desolate area filled with obstacles they must go through again to finally escape.
