Friday night in Thailand’s resort city of Pattaya, twenty-five transgender beauty queens competed in Miss Tiffany’s Universe, the beauty contest held by Tiffany’s Theatre, a world-famous attraction known for their nightly flamboyant performances by transwomen.
Social media star Rinrada “Yoshi” Thurapan was crowned the winner of the prestigious pageant. The 20-year-old did not disappoint her one million Instagram followers, by also taking home another award for “Best Couture” and receiving the titles of “Miss Silky Skin” and “Miss Photogenic” as well — the latter was a popular vote contest by members of the press.
The crowning moment came as no surprise to pageant fans, who had been following the competition since day one. The judges gave the top two spots to Yoshi and another fierce competitor, Kwanlada “Rock” Rungrojampha, a 19-year-old pageant veteran who has won a dozen of beauty contests.
But the crown went to Yoshi, after she answered a question from the judges that she aimed to be “a role model for those of non-binary genders,” and “make a good name for Miss Tiffany’s Universe contest.”
The third place went to Pimpisa “Tualek” Panupawinchoke, while another crowd favorite, Kanwara “Esmon” Kaewjeen, only made it to top twelve and was eliminated in the final round.
