More than 100,000 antigovernment protesters converged on the Thai prime minister’s offices in Bangkok on Dec. 9 in a final push to topple the kingdom’s elected government.
Tensions were reduced after Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced in the morning the House of Representatives would be dissolved and new elections called for Feb. 2.
