Photo Essay: Check out the floral hustle in one of the busiest 24-hour markets

Just below Wat Pho sprawls Pak Khlong Talat, arguably the most famous flower and produce market in Bangkok. Open 24 hours, the market is famous for its bustling hordes of workers who seem to be unloading enormous loads throughout the night. The market sits at the site of a late-1700s floating market, and by 1900 had become a fish market. Today’s flower and produce market has been there for more than 60 years. According to Wikipedia, “most of the flowers sold in the market are delivered from Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram provinces, though flowers that require cooler growing temperatures may come from as far away as Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. The market’s produce selection is extensive and is delivered from across the country.”

Local florists stock their shops from here, and low-income vendors string together garlands for sale. Although it’s location is near many popular tourist attractions, not many visitors explore its streets.
